By: John Garcia | Date Posted: January 5, 2022

Ceiling fans are a common household item these days. It isn’t uncommon to see one when you enter the living room or a bedroom of a home you’re interested in renting or buying. There are plenty of good reasons to add a ceiling fan to your home.

You can choose to install one in pretty much any room in your house and it won’t seem out of place. They add tremendous aesthetic value as well as some functionality to your home.

Watching them spin around in the summertime or push air around in the winter can be mesmerizing. That’s not even mentioning some of the fantastic add-ons/accessories one can get with a ceiling fan.

They are truly multifaceted, functional appliance that adds plenty of value to your home. Here are a few reasons you might want to consider putting a ceiling fan in your home this winter season.

Reasons Why You Need A Ceiling Fan

Add Some Aesthetics To A Room

Add Some Aesthetics To A Room

The foremost reason to add a ceiling fan to your home is to enhance the overall look and feel of the room. Because they come in plenty of styles, sizes, and colors, it’s easy to find the right one to match your space.

Additionally, there are some truly unique, occasionally fancy, but always elegant designs available on the broader ceiling fan market.

Whether you’re installing a low-profile fan that hugs the ceiling, using downrods in a higher room, or going with something standard/traditional, you can rest assured it’ll look good.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that they can help save electricity and energy, too. How many other bits of interior decor can do that? Not too many at all.

The best part is that the energy you save comes off your utility bill, which in turn saves you money in the long run.

So, you’re effectively protecting the environment, saving money in the process, and improving the airflow/circulation in your room.

On top of that, a rustic fan looks good with any wood tones in your home (especially hardwood floors) while a modern fan will fit in with any contemporary style.

With a plethora of fan styles, amenities, accessories, and more, you’ll be amping up your room’s looks in no time!

Ideal In Any Style

The beauty of ceiling fans is there are unique styles to suit any aesthetic in your home. More than just a set of rotating blades, ceiling fans come in plenty of unique styles.

Are you looking for a more rustic, natural look, similar to a wood cabin or lodge? Then you’ll want to go with a rustic or farmhouse-style fan.

If you’re interested in something sleek that can function as a transitional element in your home’s decor, a modern ceiling fan might better suit your style.

Nautical, tropical, and a plethora of other styles mean there’s essentially something for everybody in the world of ceiling fans. Spend some time looking at the different options to ultimately determine the best one for your home.

Useful In Hot And Cold Weather

If you run a ceiling fan counterclockwise during the summer months, it’ll generate a breeze. The breeze then evaporates the moisture on the skin which makes it feel cooler.

Remember that fans don’t actually generate cool air. A good ceiling fan is also great for wintertime use. Why? As every high school science student knows, heat rises.

When it accumulates near the ceiling, running a ceiling fan clockwise on a low setting can help circulate some of the heated air, making it incredibly useful regardless of the weather outside.

While a ceiling fan is scarcely a replacement for a central heater, it retains its usefulness during cold weather this way.

Better Airflow and Circulation

Peace of Mind

Running your ceiling fan doesn’t actively cool down your home, but it does introduce better airflow and circulation. The science behind them is fascinating.

When electricity courses through the wires, the motor fires up and spins the blades. As the blades spin around, they generate either an updraft or a downdraft.

These increase the circulation of the air in the room, resulting in better airflow and more energy efficiency.

Using the fan in tandem with windows being slightly open or with an HVAC system can create a substantial airflow improvement that will make your living space much more comfortable. How fast your ceiling fan spins is also critical.

The faster it spins, the more air it can circulate. Cubic feet per minute (CFM) is the measurement of how much air a ceiling fan can move in a minute.

This is an important value because it directly correlates to a fan’s efficiency. The higher the CFM, the more efficient a fan can be. The RPM of the fan’s spinning blades also matters here.

The RPM to CFM ratio should be lower for maximum efficiency. The number of blades a fan has can also play a role in how well it circulates air throughout a room.

Fans can come with anywhere from two to six blades. Two-bladed fans are often modern or industrial designs and work great for circulating air in large spaces.

The optimal number of blades is three, but it can be a bit noisy at times. That’s where the low RPM to CFM value comes into play. The lower the value, the quieter the fan.

Ultimately, the number of blades you need depends on your home’s airflow/circulation needs, aesthetics, and any number of personal factors within your home.

Lighting

Another fantastic reason to install a new ceiling fan is to add some lighting to your home. You can even replace an existing light fixture with a lighted ceiling fan.

There’s a wide variety of lighting available for ceiling fans. LED lights offer energy savings and exquisite lighting.

For more elegant offerings, you can go for torch-style lighting, recessed lighting, fully encased glass, multiple lights, single lights, and so much more.

The only thing better than a ceiling fan with lights is having a remote control to go along with it! And for something a bit fancier, you can always go with a chandelier style! It’s an easy way to add some elegance to your home while staying within your budget and what works for you.

Adding lighting is never a bad idea, so keep that in mind as you shop for the best ceiling fans for your home.
