An ejector pump removes sewage and garbage from your home if your appliances are below the city’s main sewer line. Pumps of this type are typically only seen in homes or apartments where appliances are located in rooms below ground. This is not the same as a sump pump, which removes excess water from your cellar. The sump pump and the ejector pump should be serviced at least once or twice a year.
How to Maintain Your Ejector Pump?
Make sure the pump is clean and ready to use. To prevent the pump from starting while you are working, turn off the circuit breaker and the water supply to the pump. To check for debris, carefully remove the holding tank’s lid and the access panel. If the pump is clogged with bits of food, paper towels, or other debris, put on some rubber gloves and clean it out.
Make sure the oil is up to par. The oil gauge can be found on the pump’s exterior. Open the pump to get to the oil container if it doesn’t have an external gauge. You can check the reading by removing the dipstick from this container. Place a small oil pail beneath the pump if the oil there appears unclean. Drain the oil into the pan by removing the oil plug. You must wait until it is no longer running before replacing the cap and refilling it with oil.
Examine the impeller of the pump. Within the pump, look for the pump’s impeller and motor body. Clogs are common in these places. Should grease accumulate, clean them thoroughly by wiping them down and breaking up any obstructions.
Connecting parts should be tightened. Make that all the fasteners, belts, and hose brackets that connect the various parts of the vehicle are properly tightened. Tighten them as necessary with a standard or Phillips screwdriver.
Assess the extent to which you’ll be harmed. Inspect the pump’s bearing assembly for damage. Physical damage should be obvious from the outside. The bearing assembly must be disassembled and each bearing replaced. The bearing assembly should be replaced by a trained professional before doing so.
Maintain the integrity of your seals. You can check for obvious breaks or evidence of wear and tear by rubbing your fingers against the sealed regions of your motor, such as the welded sections. Over 10-20 years, these seals are frequently broken. Seals and O-rings need to be replaced or repaired.
Sweep the ductwork. The location of the pump vents varies from model to model, so be sure to check yours out first. Keep an eye on your vents to see if there is any buildup of dirt or other debris. Dispose of them in a garbage bag after breaking them apart with your fingers. Make sure your vents are open to get some fresh air in your home. Finally, remove the pump cover and re-insert the breaker. Avoid flushing rubbish in your sinks and toilets going forward.
